Secretary of Tourism of Mexico confirms the disappearance of the CPTM

Miguel Torruco offered a press conference in which, among other issues, he announced the disappearance of the CPTM, by instruction of the President of the Republic, as part of the process of thinning the State to channel these resources to the Maya Train project.

He assured that tourism will be an important tool to favor investment, the creation of jobs and the entry of foreign currency, but mainly the recovery of social cohesion.

The head of the SECTUR estimated that by 2019 it is expected to reach a volume of 44,884,000 international tourists, 5.8% more than in 2018 and will represent an economic income of 23 thousand 263 million dollars, equivalent to 4.3% more than in 2018

"Mexico has initiated a profound change that will significantly impact the diverse aspects of the economic, political and social life of the country, and in this process tourism will play a fundamental role, and will be an important tool to favor investment, the generation of jobs and the income of foreign currency, but mainly the recovery of social cohesion, through coexistence and cultural exchange, "said the Secretary of Tourism (Sectur) of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués.

By announcing some of the most relevant actions that the new government will take on tourism, Miguel Torruco announced that "the Tourism Promotion Council disappears by instruction of the President, all the offices abroad including those of ProMéxico disappear; the State will be thinner, we will lose weight so that these resources are channeled to national priorities. "

He added that "the Council, according to the terms of the law, in the next Board of Government of the CPTM as a single issue will make known the disappearance and from that moment the process that the Ministry of Finance will mark for liquidation according to law will begin. , always according to law, "he remarked.

Regarding the promotion, he clarified that the Ministry of Tourism will continue to promote Mexico to maintain its position in the international arena. "In a few words, and to make it clearer: there will be a Mayan train and there will be tourism promotion," he stressed.

He explained that the work of international promotion will be carried out through the "Operación toca-puertas" program, focused on effective business with the main emissive tour operators, and always in close connection with the airlines and the receptive tour operators, and participating in international fairs.

The head of the federal Sectur thanked the designation made by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on his person to head the Tourism Secretariat and assured that from there all the talent, experience and creativity will be displayed so that the activity Tourism continues its current growth rate and continues to be an important driver of development.

He pointed out that, without a doubt, this new assignment represents a great challenge, especially since it will work to make tourism a tool of social reconciliation and its benefits contribute to address the most pressing situations in the economic and social life of our country.

In a press conference, Torruco Marqués stressed that with the participation of investors, businessmen, service providers, social organizations and authorities of the three levels of government, "we will have the vote of confidence and commitment to bring tourism to the level we aspire to , and become an authentic tourist power as a foreign currency captor ".

Accompanied by the undersecretaries of the Sectur, Humberto Hernández Haddad and Simón Levy, as well as by the president of the Tourism Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, Luis Alegre Salazar, Torruco Marqués said that nowadays tourism activity contributes 8.7 of GDP , a greater participation than that of sectors such as mining, oil, construction or financial services. In addition, said in 2017 grew more than the national economy: 3.4 against 2.3 percent.

He specified that in 2018, according to the trend from January to September, the prospect of closure in terms of international tourists is 42 million 423 thousand with a total expenditure of 22 thousand 307 million dollars, 4.6% more than in 2017.
