The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, headed the 77th Ordinary General Assembly of the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels and took protest from his Board of Directors.

In Guadalajara, Jalisco, before the members of the AMHM, the head of the Sectur said that by 2019 the expectation is that the number of hotels will increase 5.8% and the rooms 5.4%, which will give a total of 24 thousand 515 establishments with 878 thousand 507 rooms.

During the event, Juan José Fernández Carrillo assumed the position of national president of the AMHM, replacing Rafael García González.

"Hospitality will continue to be reaffirmed every year as the backbone of national tourism, due to the infrastructure it deploys, the investment it requires, the benefit it produces for the local population and the number of jobs it generates," said the secretary of Tourism (Sectur) of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués.

By leading the Ordinary General Assembly of the AMHM and taking the protest to the new Board of Directors of said organization, Torruco Marqués explained that "only in 2017, a thousand 326 million people moved around the world, which represented an annual growth of 6.9 percent, with one spill in 1 trillion 340 billion dollars ".

Torruco Marqués said that in this dynamic of growth, Mexico is not the exception, because in 2017 it grew more than what the national economy did in general: 3.5 against 2.2 percent.

"Mexico received 39 million 291 thousand international tourists in 2017, which represented 21 thousand 336 million dollars. In 2018, according to the trend from January to September, the expectation in arrival of international tourists is 42 million 423 thousand people and in total spending of these visitors is 22 thousand 307 million dollars, 4.6 percent more than the year past, "he explained.

Miguel Torruco emphasized that by 2019 it is expected to reach a volume of 44 million 884 thousand international tourists, 5.8 percent more than in 2018, which will represent an economic income of 23 thousand 263 million dollars, equivalent to 4.3 percent more than in 2018.

Before the representatives of the AMHM, he explained that at the end of 2017 the national hotel infrastructure was 21 thousand 967 establishments with 794 thousand 581 rooms. By 2018, it is estimated that there are 23,167 hotels with 833,854 rooms, with increases of 5.5 percent in establishments and 4.9 percent in rooms.

In the same sense reported that for next year, in 2019, the expectation is that the number of hotels will increase by 5.8 percent and rooms by 5.4 percent, which will give a total of 24 thousand 515 hotels with 878 thousand 507 hotel rooms.

He maintained that the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels is the oldest, most representative and important tourist organization in Latin America, and plays a fundamental role in the strengthening, expansion and consolidation of this sector.

He recalled that in 1922, Don Lucas de Palacio and a group of hotel visionaries founded the Association of Hotel Managers and Owners, which ultimately, in 1941, was transformed into the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels (AMHM), which counts currently with 100 branches in the different places of tourist vocation in the country.

Torruco Marqués said that since then, 22 businessmen have led the legendary association, including the current head of the Sectur, for whom it was one of the best professional experiences he has had in his 47 years of service. of tourism in Mexico.

He indicated that his administration ends at the head of this organization, Rafael García, a hotelier of strain, who over the course of four years wisely directed the destinies of this recognized association.

The secretary of Tourism wished Rafel García success in his professional projects, and said he is convinced that he will continue to contribute his experience to the hotel sector for the aggrandizement of this association and tourism activity.
