Embratur study shows that there was an increase of 8% in the number of flights when compared to 2017
In 2018, 63,788 international flights were registered in Brazil, which corresponds to 8% in relation to that observed during the whole of 2017. The data are from the International Airway Analysis of the Embratur Competitive Intelligence and Tourism Promotion Board (Brazilian Institute of Tourism), prepared monthly from information provided by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and airlines.
All regions of the country recorded an increase in the number of flights and seats available. In the South, the growth was of 36% of frequencies and 32% of vacancies; in the Northeast, was 20% in flights and 18% in seats; in the North, there are 1,430 direct flights, 13% more when compared to the same period of 2017, and there was also an increase of almost 18% in seat vacancies.
Among the Brazilian cities that received the most international flights in Brazil in 2018, Curitiba (PR) comes first in the list, with growth of 61%.
At the regional level, the South recorded the highest monthly growth. In that region, 71 international flights were registered more than reported in December 2017, a 30% increase.
The second largest positive variation was observed in the Northeast, which received 323 frequencies, 10.62% higher than in the same period of last year. At Brasília airport, which is the only one in the Midwest that receives international flights and serves as hub of the region, there was a 33% increase in weekly frequencies and a 27% increase in the number of seats.
In the Southeast, which concentrates the great majority of international landings in the country, there was stagnation in relation to the months of December 2018 and December 2017. According to the president of Embratur, Teté Bezerra, this is due to the greater investment of the airlines in the sector. "Companies are betting and investing in larger aircraft with more seat availability. When comparing the years (from January to December 2017 and 2018), the Embratur registration was a 6% increase in the number of international flights in the region, which is very important for the increase of tourists coming to Brazil, "explains President.
Another highlight of the Embratur air network analysis is the number of international flights to Brazil in the last 8 years. There was growth of 29%, from 49,557 in 2010 to 63,788 in 2018.
For Embratur president Teté Bezerra, the measures adopted by the Brazilian government in the air sector, such as the expansion of foreign participation in domestic airlines, represent a step forward for tourism and, above all, for Brazilian economic development. "Tourism is an activity with a strong economic bias. The expressive increase in aerial connectivity is one of the main growth factors in the number of international tourists in Brazil. With more options of flights and creation of new routes more foreigners will come to the Country to move our economy and, consequently, generation of employment and income ", he emphasizes.
