Bahia Principe receives the Travelife Gold certificate of sustainability in 19 of its hotels

Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts received the Travelife Gold certificate of sustainability for 19 of its hotels in the Caribbean and Spain. 7 of these distinctions renew those already obtained in 2016 and the remaining 12 are of new processing. Added to the 4 obtained in 2017, in total 23 of its 25 establishments, distributed by the four countries in which it operates: Spain, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Jamaica have the outstanding distinction.
Travelife is an international sustainability certification for hotels and accommodations. To obtain its highest distinction - the Gold certification - establishments must demonstrate compliance with 163 environmental and social criteria. These range from sustainability policies or environmental criteria that govern the consumption of water or energy or waste treatment to the training plans given to their staff. The application process includes a demanding external audit that Travelife also repeats every two years, to ensure the consistency of certified hotels in their social and environmental policies.
For Antonia del Toro, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility of Grupo Piñero, "these certificates represent an external recognition, and therefore, especially valuable, to our commitment to sustainability: strategic, transversal and long-term." Del Toro also highlighted "the great success of having achieved 23 Gold certifications in only two years, which make Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts one of the most sustainable hotel chains in the Caribbean."
The head of the company's CSR strategy has also stated that "obtaining sustainability certifications like this requires a commitment not only from the property and the top management of a company, but also from all the employees they integrate it. It is also an intensive process in time and sometimes in resources, and implies a cultural change in the way of managing the business to incorporate environmental and social sustainability criteria into its daily activity ".
Since 2017, the company incorporates its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations in its strategy.
