During the General Assembly of Members Bureau, which will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in the auditorium of the Chamber of Commerce of Medellín - Sede Poblado - will be announced the results of its actions to promote Medellin as a tourist destination, which were registered in 137 countries in the world.
Thanks to the contribution of the Mayor's Office of Medellin, in its purpose to encourage the arrival of travelers, the Bureau represented the city in specialized tourism fairs and meetings, organized international business agendas, implemented a comprehensive digital strategy through Medellin. travel and led actions with media, among other activities.
Attraction of events for the city

Promotion of the city
In 2018, the Bureau attended 14 international fairs, 11 focused on meeting tourism and 3 on vacation. There were more than 400 commercial appointments that meant opportunities to attract potential events, business and partnerships with travel agencies, wholesalers, associations, event operators, incentive houses, who are responsible for offering our region to the final traveler and the Event organizers.
One of these fairs was USTOA, the largest association of tour operators in the United States, thanks to this participation Medellin was included in more than 15 tour packages. In addition, in 2018, for the first time, the city was part of the academic agenda of one of the most important tourism fairs in the world: World Travel Market, in London.
Through digital strategies, the city is also promoted internationally. More than 16 million people received content to plan their trip to the city, digital visits mainly from the United States, Mexico, Peru, Panama and Spain. In addition, there were positive results regarding the 98 bloggers who lived memorable experiences in the destination, influencers who set trends and motivate travel decisions. More than 133 thousand positive interactions of the city were generated in medellin.travel networks (official tourism guide of the Medellín City Hall operated by the Bureau). During 2018, 165 positive news from Medellín was published in international media, on average 3 news per week.
The operation of the Tourist Information Points - PITs- management commissioned by the Mayor's Office from Medellín to El Bureau, yielded satisfactory results in 2018. The five PITs of Medellín were the best rated by FONTUR, among the 134 that operate in Colombia. In addition, we achieved an increase of 10 points in the rating of service to tourists, compared to the results of 2017, from 68 to 78 points.
"Our work has been made possible thanks to the firm commitment to strengthen tourism, which has made the Mayor's Office of Medellín, the private sector, the Chamber of Commerce of Medellín, the Government of Antioquia and allies such as Cotelco, Anato, Procolombia, Fontur, Asoeventos, Airplan among many other actors. This year we want to work hand in hand with other municipalities of Antioquia, in order to integrate a value proposal of the region that is differentiated and that generates economic and social development for the region. " The Executive Director of El Bureau, Ana María Moreno Gómez, affirmed.
Contribution to the business growth of the sector
In 2018, the Bureau, in agreement with the Mayor's Office of Medellín, led training specifically aimed at actors in the tourism sector for the promotion and sale of the destination, in which more than 620 people participated. In addition, 16 trainings or in partnership with members, which impacted 220 people on topics such as: accessible tourism, service management, commercial credibility, bilingualism, among others.
