Norwegian inaugurated the route between London and Rio de Janeiro

It is the second international route that the company operates in the region and will have four weekly flights between Gatwick and Rio Galeao airport

Norwegian, the low fare airline, began its operation in Brazil this Sunday, with a flight that will connect the English capital with the city of Rio de Janeiro. The inaugural flight departed London at 12, and arrived in Rio de Janeiro shortly after 19, while the return flight departed from Rio near midnight took off from Rio de Janeiro and arrived in London shortly before 15 from today.

The celebration event took place at the international airport or RIOgaleão and was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio; the Consul General of the United Kingdom, Simon Wood; the Norwegian Consul General, Rune Bjastad; the director of Communication and Public Affairs of Norwegian Air Argentina, Matías Maciel; the commercial director of Norwegian Air Argentina, François Romero; the director of the Americas of VisitBritain, Gavin Landry; the Secretary of State for Tourism of Rio de Janeiro, Otávio Leite, and the president of TurisRio, Thomas Weber, as well as other state and federal authorities.

With this flight, Norwegian became the operator of the first long-distance, low-fare international flight in the Brazilian market. Each section costs approximately 260 dollars for the case of the Economy cabin, and about 730 for the Premium cabin, which represents up to 45% less in relation to other direct flights for that same route. Norwegian also offers fare options so that each passenger can choose and pay only for the desired services and products.

The route will have a frequency of four weekly flights, guaranteeing the convenience of schedules for passengers and opportunities for future connections, through the network of short flights of the company from London to different destinations in the region. "Brazil is a very strategic market for the company and, from that route, we have the opportunity to offer more accessible flights between Brazil and the United Kingdom, as well as other European countries, through the connections that Norwegian offers in the Gatwick airport, "said Maciel, director of Communication and Public Affairs of Norwegian Air Argentina.

In turn, Gavin Landry, director of the Americas of VisitBritain also celebrated the new route connecting Rio de Janeiro to the United Kingdom. "This new route to Gatwick Airport in London represents a new gateway for Brazilians in the British capital, plus an opportunity to explore the enchanting attractions of southern England, including Brighton and its unique beach climate reinvigorated wine culture region of".

The arrival of the first flight of the Norwegian was celebrated with the traditional water baptism with hydrant trucks, the presentation of the band BBossa, who played British hits to the rhythm of bossa nova, and the delivery of gifts to the passengers, who received an umbrella British before embarking for the English capital.

The new route to Rio de Janeiro increases the existing service of Norwegian in South America, with direct flights from London to the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. The Gatwick-Buenos Aires route increased from four weekly flights to a daily service on December 3 last. In October, Norwegian Air Argentina began operating cabotage flights in the country with two routes from Buenos Aires to Mendoza and Córdoba and, more recently, it opened the routes to Salta, Iguazú, Bariloche and Neuquén.
