Lufthansa to operate Airbus A350-900 on renewed Sao Paulo – Munich route

Commencing December 2, 2019 – three weekly flights from GRU to MUC. Is the first Lufthansa A350 route in South America

Great news for the Brazilian economy and Lufthansa customers flying in and out of Sao Paulo as Europe’s largest airline group announces its newest route on the continent – Munich – with the Airbus A350-900 – the world's most advanced, environmentally-friendly long-haul aircraft and first Lufthansa destination served by the aircraft in South America.
Commencing on December 2, 2019, Lufthansa will offer three weekly flights from Sao Paulo to its Munich hub, where its customers can connect to over 2,000 weekly flights to 140 cities around the world.
Flights will depart Guarulhos Airport on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 19:00, arriving the following morning at 09:35. Departures from Munich are on Monday’s, Thursdays and Saturday’s at 22:30, with arrival in Sao Paulo scheduled for 07:55 the next day. Both arrivals and departures are aligned with the robust offering of connecting flights to and from key destinations throughout Europe, Middle East & Asia.
These frequencies join the daily flights the German carrier operates from Sao Paulo (GRU – FRA) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG – FRA) to Frankfurt, respectively. In addition, SWISS serves Zurich daily from Sao Paulo and twice a week from Rio de Janeiro, operated by its Edelweiss subsidiary.
In total the Lufthansa Group offers its customers in Brazil 23 weekly flights, and with the Munich frequencies the total will increase to 26.
“The Lufthansa Group has served and operated in Brazil for over six decades and continues to see the country, especially today, as a growth market fueled by growing business and consumer confidence, allowing for the relaunch of direct Lufthansa flights between Sao Paulo and Munich. As we have full confidence in the further recovery of the Brazilian economy the additional flights will assist in stimulating new demand from both business and leisure sectors, facilitating even stronger bonds between the two dynamic cities and regions, “said Tom Maes, Lufthansa Group Director of Sales for South America.
Both Lufthansa and SWISS serve Brazil with their largest “flagship” long-haul aircraft, the Boeing 747-8 “Queen of the Skies,” and Boeing 777-300ER, respectively.
According to Maes, the group continually upgrades its onboard product, while investing billions of euros in the latest aircraft, one of the factors leading the London-based Skytrax Institute to award Lufthansa with its highest accolade, the Western Hemisphere’s only 5-star airline.
“In bringing Lufthansa’s A350-900 to this market, we underscore our commitment to the Brazilian market, significantly enhancing our Brazilian passengers’ travel experiences with many additional enhancements, an elevated on-board product as well as comfort, to Munich’s award winning Terminal 2,” Maes noted.
The A350-900, Boeing 747-8 and Boeing 777-300ER exemplify the innovative state-of-theart technology, enabling the Lufthansa Group to offer its Brazilian customers to experience the most innovative products on their journeys to Frankfurt, Zurich and soon Munich, with the flexibility of traveling through these three leading European hubs to over 300 destinations around the world.
