The recognition was awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education to two beaches and two marinas
This morning, the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, delivered four Blue Flag badges to the municipal presidents of San Blas, Bahia de Banderas and Santa Maria del Oro, in the state of Nayarit.
With the presence of the governor of the entity, Antonio Echevarría García, the head of the Ministry of Tourism awarded this recognition for Nuevo Vallarta North Beach and the Santa María del Oro Lagoon, as well as for the marinas of Riviera Nayarit, located in the town of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, and that of San Blas.
The badges were received by Candy Yescas Blancas, municipal president of San Blas; Jaime Cuevas Tellos, municipal president of Bahía de Banderas; and Ana María Isiordia López, municipal president of Santa María del Oro.
Blue Flag (Blue Flag), an international distinctive awarded to beaches and marinas, has as main objective to reward beach destinations that have achieved excellence in various areas, such as Environmental Management and Management; Security and services; Application of environmental education activities; and Water quality.
It has been granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education since 1981, which is based in Denmark.
In Mexico, Blue Flag operates under 33 international criteria for beaches and 25 marinas, having as main indicators the quality of water and environmental education.
Torruco Marqués explained that with 54 beaches and three marinas that hold this distinction, Mexico is located in the first place of the American continent with more Blue Flag beaches, and in the thirteenth place worldwide, in the 2019-2020 season.
These beaches and marinas are located in thirteen municipalities of six states of the Mexican Republic: Baja California Sur, with two in La Paz and 19 in Los Cabos; Nayarit, with one in Santa María del Oro and San Blas, plus two in Bahía de Banderas; as well as Jalisco, with three in Puerto Vallarta.
There are also Guerrero, with two in Zihuatanejo and five in Acapulco; Oaxaca, with two in Huatulco; and Quintana Roo with ten in Benito Juárez (Cancún), six in Solidaridad, three in Isla Mujeres and one in Puerto Morelos.
It is noteworthy that in the 2013-2014 season our country only had four certified beaches and a marina, and now it has 54 beaches and three Blue Flag marinas.
Joaquín Díaz Ríos, executive director of the Foundation for Environmental Education Mexico, was also present at the event; the vice admiral General Staff Corps, Manuel García Macedo, commander of the Sixth Naval Zone; Ana Cecilia Llanos Guzmán, Secretary of Tourism of Nayarit; and David Guerrero Castellón, Secretary of Sustainable Development of the entity, among other officials.
Later, as part of this work tour, Secretary Torruco Marqués visited the island of Mexcaltitán, in the municipality of Santiago Ixcuintla.
