Located in Baja California, near the border between the United States and Mexico, Mexicali is the airport that is located further north of Mexico. It had a record growth during 2018, with an annual passenger increase of 42% compared to 2017. This was the fastest growth rate in 2018 of the 12 airports in Mexico managed by GAP.
In Mexicali, SITA will provide the new common-use self-service kiosks, check-in areas and boarding gates that run at SITA AirportConnect Open. SITA technology will provide greater efficiency to the airport since all airlines can share the same check-in and boarding equipment, and international ones can operate as they do in other airports around the world.
SITA technology is already being used by passengers flying from the Mexicali international airport. This includes SITA self-service kiosks S5. These next-generation kiosks, which are proving to be very popular among Mexicali passengers, can be used for a series of self-service processes, including booking, modification, check-in and printing of luggage tags .
