The President and CEO of the WTTC was awarded at the IV AFEET International Congress
Gloria Guevara Manzo, President and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), was awarded the Anahuac Leadership Medal in Tourism and Gastronomy 2019, during the IV International Congress of the Women's Association of Business Executives Tourist of the Mexican Republic, AC (AFEET).
The also former Secretary of Tourism of Mexico thanked the recognition of her Alma Máter, from which she graduated in 1988 from the Bachelor of Computer Science.
“I receive this medal humbly and with great pride, I would like to share it with my parents, brothers, my children and my husband. In my professional career I have had the opportunity to be accompanied by my friends from the tourism industry, those from AFEET and those from the WTTC, ”said Guevara Manzo after receiving the medal.
During her keynote address “World and Mexican Tourism Expectations,” the WTTC President and CEO highlighted that in Mexico the tourism sector contributes with 17 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and that almost 18 percent of jobs are related to the so called 'industry without chimneys'. "Therefore, we must continue to invest and work hard," he added.
In the IV International Congress AFEET were present Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretary of Tourism of Mexico; Luis Barrios, CEO of Hoteles City Express; José Luis Castro, CEO of Corporate Travel Services (CTS); and Alejandro Zozaya Goroztiza, CEO of Apple Leisure Group, among other important personalities.
The WTTC is an organization that represents the private Travel and Tourism sector on a global scale. It consists of more than 170 executive directors and presidents of the main companies of various industries of all latitudes. The agency works to raise awareness about one of the largest sectors of the economy, by creating one in 10 jobs in the world (319 million) and generating 10.4% of the world's GDP (8.8 billion dollars) in 2018.
