KLM lands for the first time in Liberia, Guanacaste

A few minutes before 8 pm on Tuesday, Guanacaste landed the Dutch airline KLM for the first time. The Daniel Oduber Quirós airport received the triangulated flight of the Amsterdam-San José-Liberia route with typical dances, marimba music, a sample of the variety offered by this province and nearby regions.
Precisely, during the European winter season (October 29-March 28), the airline will operate the route between Holland and Costa Rica four times a week. The flights will be made in Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with a capacity for 294 passengers: 30 in executive class and 264 in economy class.
This first direct KLM flight took off to Europe from the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia at about 9:15 p.m., and is projected to finally arrive at Schiphol International Airport in Amsterdam at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, October 30.
“For Costa Rica and especially for Guanacaste tonight is crucial. The oldest airline in the world, recognized and well respected in the airline industry connects Guanacaste with Amsterdam, opening the way to one of the largest and most efficient centers in Europe for passengers and cargo, ”said María Amalia Revelo, Minister of Tourism of Costa Rica.
Revelo added that Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, the KLM operations center, is the third busiest airport in Europe in terms of passenger volume and we are very pleased because this connection will increase visits to Guanacaste and stimulate growth in this region, benefiting to hundreds of families that work in tourism ”
Flying to San José and leaving Liberia will be possible with the same ticket, which makes it an ideal combination for all travelers who wish to discover Costa Rica. Similarly, Costa Ricans can start and end their trip in San José or Guanacaste Liberia in both directions with the same ticket.
The expansion of the Daniel Oduber Quirós Airport in July 2018 has allowed us to increase the capacity to serve up to 300 thousand more passengers per year and the opening of this new triangulated route is the tangible result of the efforts of the ICT airline attraction strategy , develops together with the main air terminals in the country. “It is very satisfying to continue announcing new flights and routes to Guanacaste. Between October 2019 and March 2020, Air France and KLM will operate 8 weekly direct flights to Costa Rica and now includes the connection to Liberia in that offer.

Guanacaste: a magnet for tourism
One of the Costa Rican destinations with greater visitation and diversity of attractions is the Guanacaste area. The Guanacaste region has a wide variety of attractions such as national parks, conservation areas, wide biodiversity, volcanoes, rivers, spaces for adventure tourism, sun and beach, wellness, among others.
Of the total of the people who arrived in the country during 2018 by air, almost 882 thousand remained, at least one night, in Guanacaste, which represents more than 38%. During the first half of 2019, Daniel Oduber International Airport received just over 355,000 travelers. These figures support the attraction that the region represents for tourists.
Additionally, in the first half of 2019 the visit of 255,000 international arrivals of Europeans was recorded, of which a little more than 14,000 came from the Netherlands at both international airports.
