Montevideo Airport celebrates ten years of operations

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of its terminal, Carrasco International Airport inaugurated the mural “Uruguay to the World”, an artistic work that celebrates Uruguayan identity

Made in the walls of the viaduct located at the entrance of the terminal, the mural portrays eight key figures of the history and national culture chosen by the Uruguayans themselves. Its objective is to bring the identity of the country to the thousands of passengers and visitors who pass through the airport.

Alfredo Zitarrosa, China Zorrilla, Carlos Páez Vilaró, José Pedro Varela, Gonzalo "Gonchi" Rodríguez, Clemente Stable, Juana de Ibarbourou and Rosa Luna, were the personalities selected through an initiative in which more than 11,500 people participated.

The renowned group of artists Licuado Collective embodied the faces of the representatives of the national heritage, which from now on will welcome tourists and visitors. On the other hand, Inca Paintings provided the necessary paint to recondition the entire viaduct.

The inauguration event was attended by the Minister of Defense, José Bayardi, the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Víctor Rossi, the Minister of Tourism, Liliam Kechichián, and the Mayor of Canelones, Yamandú Orsi. The CEO of Corporación América Airports, Martín Eurnekián, and the CEO of Corporación América Uruguay, Diego Arrosa, also participated.

“This work is our gift to the country in gratitude for this first decade of the terminal. It is a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Uruguay, and is a way to improve a public space with art, sharing our identity with those who visit us, ”said Arrosa.

During the event, Arrosa also highlighted the support received by the Intendencia de Canelones, the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works, as well as the support of the Ministries of Tourism, Defense, and Education and Culture, which declared of ministerial interest The initiative.

For her part, Minister Kechichián celebrated the realization of the activity, which she described as a “fantastic idea”.

“The initiative has managed to combine the participation of the people, to involve the community in the election of the honorees. All of us here feel very represented by these figures. Now, every time a visitor arrives at the airport and in our country, we will have the opportunity to explain to them what role these people played for Uruguay. ”

The completion of the work within the ten years of its terminal consolidates the role of Carrasco Airport as an engine of growth and development for Uruguay, and reaffirms its commitment as a tourism and cultural enrichment agent for the entire country.
