Brazil will privatize three important national parks

A decree of President Jair Bolsonaro published on Tuesday (3) in the Official Gazette of the Union, released the privatization of three Brazilian national parks considered federal conservation units, that is, they are natural areas created and protected by the municipal, state public power or federal, in which only its natural resources can be used indirectly.
The lands released for private exploitation are the National Park do Iguaçu (Paraná), National Park dos Lençóis Maranhenses (Maranhão) and the Jericoacoara National Park in Ceará. The measure is part of the National Desestatization Program, in effect in Brazil since the 1990s and has been used by various governments to grant goods and services to the private sector.
According to the decree, the state-run National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) may be hired to prepare the necessary studies for concessions and to support the supervision of technical services and the review of projects that are contracted.
The measure is part of an initiative of the Bolsonaro government that aims to increase tourism flow in Brazil, and that includes not only the privatization of services and infrastructure, but also the liberation of the air market to foreign companies and facilities for US citizens. , Canada, Australia, Japan and China obtain visas to visit Brazil.

Brazil currently receives an average of 6.5 million tourists per year, and aspires to double that figure in 2022.
