Uruguay is positioned as the most gay-friendly country in Latin America

Year after year the LGBTQ + Danger Index makes a ranking of the most dangerous and friendly countries for the public of sexual and gender diversity. The South American country was ranked 18th worldwide

LGBT Tourism refers to the offer of destinations and services for communities of sexual and gender diversity (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders and others). In the last three years, according to the World Tourism Organization, this sector has had a significant increase, which has not only meant an increase in economic income, but also denotes a significant advance in tolerance and acceptance for diversity.
In that sense, year after year the LGBTQ + Danger Index makes a ranking of the most dangerous and friendly countries for the public of sexual and gender diversity, evaluating eight relevant factors for the promotion of “gay-friendly tourism”, based -precisely - in legislative advances in tolerance and diversity. The legalization of same-sex marriage, protection of rights in the workplace, protection against discrimination, recognition of adoption, punishment of hate crimes and the Gallup index are added points (if it is a good place to live) ; while it removes punctuation if there are laws of morality or illegality of relations between people of the same sex.
In the last edition of the ranking, the best positioned Latin American country was Uruguay, which ranked 18th in the world, while Sweden topped the list of 150 countries, ranking as the friendliest country for the LGBT population. While Chile, it only reaches eighth place in the region and 34 in the world.
The LGBT public considers Uruguay as one of their favorite destinations for years, mainly for its varied tourist offer and its high level of respect for diversity.

The most dangerous countries for the LGBT Community
On the other side of the coin, the most dangerous countries for this group are: Nigeria, Qatar, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Iran, Sudan, Barbados, Malaysia and Malawi, which are nations without any protection to the gay community and with very strict morality laws, even with a legal prohibition of having sex with people of the same sex.
The worst located country in the Americas is Jamaica, where there is a strong homophobia. In South America the worst ranked is Paraguay.
