The movement in the main carnival destinations of the country has set a new record
The movement of revelers in the main carnival hubs in the country registered a record in 2020. According to data released by local managers, Olinda (PE), Recife (PE) and Salvador (BA) registered 22.1 million people, the highest number until then. In Rio de Janeiro (RJ), previous information shows that more than 6.4 million revelers took advantage of the blocks and parades of samba schools in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, points out that expectations for Carnival were confirmed and that the sector was one of the main beneficiaries. “With each passing year we have more people enjoying this popular and democratic party that is completely linked to tourism. They are Brazilians from North to South of the Country who have fun and move our sector, creating jobs and income for thousands of people ”, he said.
In the capital of Pernambuco, two million revelers enjoyed the carnival, 400 thousand more than in 2019. In neighboring Olinda, the number was 3.6 million, with an increase of 200 thousand people compared to the previous year. Of this total, almost half (1.5 million) came from other states and 400 thousand from other countries. The hotel occupancy rate registered an average of 98%, according to the Brazilian Hotel Industry Association (ABIH) of Pernambuco.
Salvador had an average of 16.5 million people enjoying the revelry. Of this total, 854 thousand were tourists from the interior of the state and from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Pernambuco, Minas Gerais and the Federal District. In addition, the capital received 86,000 foreign tourists, mainly from Argentina, France, the United States, Germany, Spain and England. According to the Bahian government, tourist revenue for the period is estimated at R $ 2.5 billion.

VISITS - During the month of February, the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, made a series of technical visits to the main Carnival destinations in the country. The objective of the initiative was to verify the preparations for the party, which, according to estimates by the National Trade Confederation (CNC), moved around R $ 8 billion in Brazil's economy, the highest value since 2015.
In Salvador (BA), Álvaro Antônio was at the Abadás Distribution Center in the capital of Bahia and discussed strategies for strengthening the sector with the state's tourist trade. In Recife (PE), the minister visited the Central do Carnaval, a meeting point for revelers in the capital of Pernambuco, already in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), visited the facilities of the sambadrome and met with the local tourist trade to deal with the organization and security of one of the biggest popular parties in the world.
