Grand Hyatt, brand selected for the Miami Beach Convention Center hotel

The 800-room property was designed by Arquitectónica and will open its doors in 2023 with new public spaces, better connectivity and privately funded infrastructure

The development team of the new Miami Beach Convention Center hotel announced that the 800-room property will be operated by Hyatt under the luxurious Grand Hyatt brand, when it opens its doors to guests in 2023. Grand Hyatt Miami Beach will create a new option of hospitality for visitors attending events at the adjacent Miami Beach Convention Center, renovated with an investment of $ 600 million last year.

The development of the hotel is being led by David Martin, of Terra, and Jackie Soffer of Turnberry, his plans for the hotel were overwhelmingly approved by Miami Beach voters in 2018. The 17-story hotel will be located at the intersection of the 17th Street and Convention Center Drive, a short distance from the beach, Lincoln Road Mall, New World Symphony, The Bass Museum and The Fillmore Miami Beach.

"For years, Miami Beach has served as a global destination for arts, culture, shopping, gastronomy and entertainment, but the city has lacked a true headquarters hotel for top-level conventions and meetings," said Martin and Soffer , who also added: "The first Grand Hyatt hotel in South Florida will maximize Miami Beach's investment in its renovated Convention Center, while saving the physical gap between the Convention Center District and surrounding neighborhoods. ".

The new hotel will become the second Grand Hyatt property in Florida, joining Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay. Grand Hyatt hotels are designed to connect guests with iconic experiences and their hallmarks include bold and vibrant design and architecture, quality and welcoming services.

"At Hyatt, we believe in growing with intention and expanding our footprint in the markets that matter to our guests and members of World of Hyatt," said David Tarr, Senior Vice President of Real Estate and Development at Hyatt, who also added: "The The company is proud to play an integral role in this project as a hotel operator, under the luxury brand Grand Hyatt, which will help guests and locals celebrate the iconic and captivating city of Miami Beach. "

The Grand Hyatt Miami Beach will be designed by internationally acclaimed architect Bernardo Fort-Brescia and his firm, Architectural, based in Miami. The team also includes partner Craig Robins de Dacra, visionary behind the Miami Design District and who also helped revive the Art Deco District of Miami Beach in the 90’s; Stonehill Taylor, who will design the hotel's interior lobby, ballroom, meeting rooms, rooms, and all common areas; EOA, who will design the hospitality features of the hotel's pool deck; and Architectural GEO, who will create lush pedestrian walks and landscapes.

Hotel features are expected to include 12 floors of guest rooms overlooking Miami Beach, two floors of meeting spaces and ballrooms that will complement the Convention Center, a resort-style pool deck with panoramic views, and a commercial space limited that will activate the district at street level. In addition, an elevated airlift will allow event attendees to move freely between the hotel and the Convention Center in a heated and art-filled corridor.

Plans also include landscaped pedestrian walkways in the surrounding streets, bike sharing stations, connectivity with public transportation routes, car parking areas to share and direct access between the Convention Center and Lincoln Road. The project's sustainability measures include stormwater management and reuse, flood risk mitigation and the use of solar energy, all in order to guarantee the continuity of operations during meteorological phenomena.

"The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) joins Terra, Turnberry and the City of Miami Beach to welcome the Grand Hyatt Miami Beach as the newly appointed brand for the 800-room headquarters hotel connected to the Convention Center of Miami Beach, "said William D. Talbert, III, CDME, President of the GMCVB.

"The Grand Hyatt Miami Beach allows to compete better in the conventions of the city, which encourages employment in our community and generates business for all hotels and merchants of Greater Miami. We look forward to its inauguration to complete the Convention Center District from Miami Beach, "said Talbert.
