The Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Nation, Matías Lammens, participated with his peers in the region in a video call with authorities from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), where measures for the short and medium term that support the sector were analyzed. in the framework of the pandemic.
"COVID-19 and Tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean: Prioritization of Measures to Address the Crisis" was the trigger for the meeting led by Luis Moreno, President of the Inter-American Development Bank. On behalf of Argentina, the Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Nation, Matías Lammens, and the undersecretary of Strategic Development, Eugenia Benedetti.
During the meeting, measures for the short and medium term to sustain the sector were shared and analyzed, as well as strategies for thinking about tourism after the pandemic, taking into account the change in habit in tourism consumption.
For the short-term work, the proposed axes were: tax facilities, health and biodiversity protocols and flexible lines of credit. In turn, the authorities of all countries agreed on the importance of supporting companies in the sector and protecting jobs.
In a video call from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Lammens highlighted: "The main concern is to keep the Argentine tourism sector on its feet, so that when the pandemic ends we have the tourist infrastructure operational to receive visitors." And he added that the Argentine State "has already implemented very strong specific measures for the private sector."
For his part, Benedetti assured: “Training and support for all actors in the tourism sector, both public and private, is necessary to incorporate the application of health protocols in the offer of services. This will be one of the requirements that the tourist will request when the coronavirus pandemic ends”.
