RIU recovers its activity in Cancun

The Spanish hotel chain has just announced the reopening of the Riu Palace Peninsula and the Riu Cancun

RIU Hotels resumes its activity in Cancun and does so with the reopening of two emblematic hotels in Mexico: the Riu Palace Peninsula, which opens today June 8; and the Riu Cancun, which resumes its activity on the 19th of this month. Both hotels, located in the Cancun Hotel Zone, are the first that the chain reopens in the Mexican Caribbean after closing its 99 establishments worldwide (20 of them in Mexico) last March. With these openings, RIU goes one step further in its objective to gradually recover its operation worldwide, after having already opened urban hotels in Miami, Berlin and Guadalajara and having announced the opening of four other vacation establishments in Bulgaria.

The Riu Palace Peninsula is the second hotel that the chain opens in Mexico, after the reopening on May 25 of the Riu Plaza Guadalajara, in Jalisco, to which the Riu Cancun will shortly be added. The chain's objective is to gradually recover its activity in the different destinations of the country in which it is located (Cancun, Costa Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Los Cabos, Riviera Nayarit, Mazatlán and Guadalajara).

In the same way that the Riu Plaza Guadalajara and before its imminent opening, the Riu Palace Peninsula and Riu Cancun are ready to start applying the protocols contained in the RIU Manual for the Post-COVID hotel, which offers the maximum possible security guarantees for customers and employees. For this, RIU has created a specific training program so that all employees are prepared to apply the 17 protocols created by the chain in collaboration with the consulting firm Preverisk.

The opening of the Riu Palace Peninsula, located at kilometer 5.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone, is great news as the recovery of Cancun as a tourist destination begins, just in the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of the city. Built in 2012, the Riu Palace Peninsula has become one of the favorite hotels for RIU clients, both for the beauty and particularity of its imposing facade and for the sophistication of its 562 rooms and common areas.

For its part, the Riu Cancun is a symbol for families who visit RIU wishing to know the wonders of the Mexican Caribbean. Completely renovated in 2014, the hotel offers 569 rooms and is located on the seafront. Like the Riu Palace Peninsula, it offers its guests RIU's renowned 24-hour All Inclusive service.

The Riu Palace Peninsula is the fourth hotel that RIU reopens after the crisis caused by COVID. The hotels that have already opened their doors are: the Riu Plaza Guadalajara and the Riu Palace Peninsula (Mexico); the Riu Plaza Berlin (Germany); the Riu Plaza Miami Beach (United States); as well as the opening during June of four hotels in Bulgaria have been announced.
