Tourism in Ecuador has a way out

This was stated yesterday by Minister Rosi de Holguín. The official assured that internal tourism will be the one that begins to move in the short term

"The tourist activity in Ecuador has many possibilities to get out of the crisis and for that we need professionals with new ideas and proposals that motivate travelers to return to our country," said the Minister of Tourism, Rosi Prado de Holguín, during the Conversatorio on the New Post Covid World Order, organized by the UNIANDES University.

The Secretary of State, who participated with the Minister of Production, Iván Ontaneda and Guillermo Rodríguez, advisor to the Ministry of Government on security issues, encouraged the students of the tourism and gastronomy career to continue preparing because the tourist activity, with everyone's work and support will go ahead.

She explained that the tourism sector in Ecuador and in the world is the most affected and that its reactivation and recovery will be gradual, so the National Government continues to work on plans and programs to alleviate problems such as that of liquidity.

He explained that only in March when the confinement began, according to information issued by the Internal Revenue Service (SRI), sales reached USD 193.3 million, which means a decrease of USD 236.5 million compared to Sales for the same month in 2019 that reached USD 429.8 million, that is, a 55% drop in sales.

Faced with this panorama, Minister Ontaneda in his presentation revealed the importance of tourism activity within the country's economy and for this reason, he said that small and medium-sized entrepreneurs will also benefit from loans from the Reactívate Ecuador Fund of 1,150 million dollars promoted by the National Government with resources from various multilateral organizations. "We are going to promote and strengthen tourism and for that it has the support of the different ministries," he said.

Minister Rosi de Holguín warned that domestic tourism will be the one that first begins to move and within this, rural destinations will be those that are in greatest demand, so she reported that this Thursday the program “Ecuador From Its Roots” was launched ”, Which aims to strengthen rural areas as a sustainable tourist destination, offering travelers health security and the possibility of discovering unique experiences.
