Brazilian government authorizes gradual reopening of national parks

Since March visits had been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic

Observing all the preventive measures against Covid-19, the Chico Mendes Institute for the Conservation of Biodiversity (ICMBio) authorized in the last week the reopening to visit four national parks: Aparados da Serra and Serra Geral, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brasilia and Foz de Iguazú (PR). The resumption of activities in these places must respect the legal determinations established by the state and / or municipal governments. Among the essential measures for reopening are the use of a mask and the availability of 70% alcohol.

In Brasilia, the National Park was reopened this Monday (06/15) with some restrictions. Among them, the reduction in the number of visitors, limited to 300 people per day, respecting the minimum space of two meters between them. In addition, the site will not charge tickets for the next 30 days and will not allow the use of the pools, as well as visiting the Capivara Trail. The expectation is that from the 31st to the 60th day of opening, the number of visitors will increase to 400 people, and from the 61st day onwards, the visits will return to the regular limit.

In Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná, the conservation units have been open since last week. The number of visitors to these parks should be reduced to the limit of 40% of their public capacity, also taking into account the distance between people. The sale of tickets must be done online, in addition to the services and schedules. The measures must also be carried out by service providers, agencies and tour operators that operate in these parks.

Since March, visiting activities in national parks and other conservation units have been suspended due to the new coronavirus pandemic.
