Following Tim Sheldon's departure, the hotel chain announces the appointment of Brian King who has long served as an executive of the company
Marriott International (NASDAQ: MAR) announced today that Brian King, who has been a long-time executive of the company, has been named President of the company's Caribbean and Latin American region. King will assume his new role in January 2021 and report to Craig Smith, who will assume the role of President of the International Group at that time. Mr. King succeeds Tim Sheldon, who recently announced his retirement.

The Marriott region in the Caribbean and Latin America includes 268 properties spread across 34 countries. In August 2019, Marriott announced the launch of its all-inclusive platform and the signing of management contracts with hotel developers who plan to build seven new all-inclusive resorts in the region. In December 2019, Marriott acquired the Elegant Hotels Group, which includes seven hotels in Barbados, to help further drive the growth of the company's all-inclusive accommodation platform.

A 27-year veteran of Marriott, Mr. King currently serves as a Global Officer leading 9,500 associates in Distribution, Revenue Strategy, Customer Engagement Centers (CEC), Global Sales Organization (GSO), and Planning and Services. Oversees $ 23 billion in sales from Marriott's largest multinational customers, 63 million customer contacts annually at CECs and product development for the company's category-leading revenue generation systems.
Mr. King's experience with the company spans digital, brand management for Marriott-backed brands, and operations roles in the Americas. During his tenure, he worked to incorporate Delta Hotels and Protea Hotels into the Marriott brand portfolio and was responsible for the global launch of the MOXY Hotels brand in 2013. Mr. King is also credited with transforming Courtyard by Marriott, where he directed the innovative repositioning of the brand's marketing approach, redesign of public space, guest-facing technology and Food & Beverage offerings. King also helped lead the integration of Starwood Hotels into Marriott reservations, revenue management and digital platforms. He began his journey to Marriott as a part-time associate at Marriott's Great America.
A graduate of Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mr. King completed his executive education at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the School of Hotel Management at Cornell University.
