Punta Cana International Airport conducts reactivation drill

The Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) carried out a simulation of the reactivation of operations prior to its reopening on July 1st, with the aim of strengthening the new health security protocols implemented in the airport terminal for containment in the airport community. and prevention against Covid-19.

The exercise was carried out in Terminal A, taking place around the arrival of one flight and the departure of two simultaneously. During the same, the boarding of buses from the departure of a hotel until arrival at the airport, the use of kiosks to carry out self-registration or self-check-in and check-in at the counter were simulated. In addition, VIP services, porter services, assistance to passengers with reduced mobility, and protocols in the area of ​​shops and restaurants were launched.

Also, the process to be carried out in the stations of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) was represented, where the temperature will be taken to the passengers, the digital reading of the boarding passes by the personnel in charge was simulated, the passage through metal detecting arches or body scanners, and the migration process until reaching the gate. In addition, the arrest of a passenger with suspicious symptoms of Covid-19 was staged, to put into practice the activation of the protocols established by the Ministry of Public Health.

"We want to ensure the proper functioning of all our protocols and the prompt action of our staff, as well as the airport community, in any real situation during our operations," said Alberto Smith, director of Landside Operations at Punta Cana International Airport.

In the simulation, held on June 25, more than 200 people participated, including personnel and representatives of airlines, transport companies, ground service representatives, shops, the Specialized Corps on Airport Security and Civil Aviation ( CESAC), the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), General Directorate of Customs (DGA), National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD), the Ministries of Public Health and Agriculture, among other support entities.

Punta Cana International Airport works with the guidelines of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). It plans to receive some 363 flights throughout the month of July.
