More than 60 events are being postponed for the last months of 2020 and others are already planned for 2021 and 2022
Monterrey, the industrial capital of Mexico, is preparing to once again host meeting tourism, the main destination market that has positioned the capital of Nuevo León as a national leader in attracting foreign direct investment, which has positioned it as one of the main in the country to attend congresses and conventions.
During this contingency, the OCV Monterrey has been working hand in hand with Turismo Nuevo León and the Tourism Cluster, in the implementation of strategies and in the development of health protocols for the prompt reactivation of the tourism and meetings industry. Also, it has been in constant communication with the organizers, offering support and advice, especially to those affected by the pandemic, and who have seen the need to reschedule their events.
To date, only 8 events have been canceled, and a total of 68 have been rescheduled for the last months of 2020, as well as for the years 2021 and 2022.
During the months of March, April, May and June, the OCV Monterrey managed to win 13 events, 4 international and 9 national, for the city, which confirms the organizer's confidence in the destination and reaffirms the commitment to guarantee safe spaces and activities for the visitors. Currently and thanks to new technologies, the office is preparing virtual applications to continue attracting events to Monterrey.
It is expected that for the second semester of the year, the meeting tourism in Monterrey will be in clear recovery with the holding of important events such as Ironman 70.3, the National Congress of Oncology, the Great Latin American Summit of Young Living and the ALANON National Convention, among others, which will be carried out with the new protocols and sanitary measures endorsed by the corresponding authorities.
As part of the actions carried out by the OCV Monterrey, they also include guaranteeing the financial support committed to the clients of confirmed events; Coordination with hotels and venues to provide flexibility with the organizers of postponed dates to the organizers of postponed events, as well as the reengineering in capacities, assemblies and other factors that facilitate the holding of meetings without this representing great economic losses for clients and providers.
