Blue Flag analyzes certification of Brazilian beaches and marinas

To obtain the certification developed by the international non-governmental and non-profit organization FEE, the program analyzes water quality with periodic bathing tests, in addition to infrastructure, safety, accessibility and the commitment of communities

 

The summer season of 2020/2021 in Brazil should have 24 natural attractions certified by the Blue Flag Program, a kind of ecological seal. The title of 18 beaches and six Brazilian marinas was pre-approved by the program and the official list should be released in October, after meeting the international jury, of which the Ministry of Tourism is part. This year, five new beaches may receive the seal: three located in Santa Catarina, one in Bahia and one in Rio de Janeiro. The other 13 beaches and six marinas contribute to maintaining the title.

To obtain the Blue Flag certification, developed by the international non-governmental and non-profit organization FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education), the program analyzes water quality with periodic bathing tests, in addition to infrastructure, safety, accessibility and the commitment of communities with the environment and the sustainability of tourist destinations.

In addition to the MTur, the Ministries of Education and the Environment, the Secretariat of Heritage of the Union, the Brazilian Nautical Association, the Brazilian Coastal Management Agency, the SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation and the Brazilian Society are also part of the jury for the Program in Brazil. Aquatic Rescue. Annually, the entities meet to check compliance with the criteria and decide on which beaches, marinas and boats will be submitted to the international jury.

The Blue Flag Program promotes sustainable development in freshwater and marine areas. The Program challenges local authorities and beach managers to achieve high quality standards in four themes: water quality, environmental management, environmental education and safety. Over the years, the Blue Flag has become a highly respected and recognized eco-label working to bring together the tourism and environment sectors in a local, regional and international way.
