The Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of the Government of Mexico announced this morning the new "Clean Point Quality Seal V2020. Good Practices for Hygienic-Sanitary Quality in the Tourism Sector ”, aimed at the entire tourist value chain, such as restaurants, hotels, cafes, travel agencies, car rental companies, dive operators, leisure and entertainment centers, to mention some.

The Clean Point Seal V2020 is the result of a transformation process that involved updating and improving the original model: “Clean Point Seal”, developed during the 2009 AH1N1 influenza pandemic, to respond more efficiently and adequately to the challenges and needs that The current context of the Covid-19 pandemic demands the tourism industry.

The new Clean Point Seal V2020 has been fed back by chambers and tourist business associations, with the aim of promoting the successful adoption of this initiative that seeks to strengthen the hygienic-sanitary quality in the providers of tourist services and provide greater security to tourists who they visit, so that they enjoy a safe travel experience in our country.

During the presentation, the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, explained that the process of improving the original Clean Point Seal was carried out in four stages:

Review of guides, guidelines, protocols and recommendations, issued internationally, by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Integration of the new "Good hygienic quality practices" to the original Clean Point model.

Generation of the new Clean Point V2020 model. Good Practices for Hygienic-Sanitary Quality in the tourism sector.

Feedback from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, as well as Chambers and Associations from the tourism sector.

He added that through this new model, tourism companies will be able to provide tourists, nationals and foreigners, with an environment of safety and hygiene, both in the facilities where they stay, and in the chain of services employed throughout their stay.

"With this, we also generate, as a destination, greater confidence in travelers to fully enjoy the tourism products and natural and cultural attractions that Mexico has," he said.

He argued that thanks to the modular structure of this new Seal model, good practices can be integrated into business management processes, through training and advisory actions, taking as a platform the concept of hygienic quality.

"It is important to note that this Quality Seal is the only one that has the institutional backing of both the Ministry of Health, headed by Dr. Jorge Alcocer Varela, and the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, whose owner is Luisa María Alcalde Luján ; as well as the Ministry of Tourism, and its granting represents an added value for the establishments that are creditors of this recognition and for Mexico as a destination, ”she stressed.

He also recalled that for four months, when the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a pandemic, the Ministry of Tourism has been very respectful of the actions of prevention and health regulation carried out by the Government of Mexico, to through the Ministry of Health, with whom it has collaborated closely to prepare various safety and hygiene protocols

As a result of this joint work, two protocols were made in April for lodging centers and restaurants; and one more in May, related to the hygiene guidelines for the reactivation and gradual opening of the tourist sector, including, without exception, all the places where the tourist transits.

“On June 3 we had a meeting with the director general of the Mexican Institute of Social Security, Zoé Robledo, in order to coordinate the monitoring platform for the gradual opening of tourist activity; and on June 7 we did the same with the Secretary of the Interior, Olga Sánchez Cordero; the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, and members of the National Conference of Governors, where it was agreed to reopen the sector in an orderly manner and with adequate security measures" he said.
