Costa Rica Convention Center gets Blue Flag

The complex has been recognized in the Climate Change category for its commitment to the environment

Costa Rica Convention Center has received its first Blue Flag in the Climate Change category, an important achievement that recognizes its commitment to the environment.

It is worth remembering that the Ecological Blue Flag Program was born as a response to the strengthening of public health and tourist activity. Currently, it has ten categories and is a program administered by several public sector institutions and private company organizations. It is a merit awarded annually.

The Costa Rica Convention Center is the only one in the country developed from a sustainable design, with a bioclimatic architecture that mainly seeks to protect and make the best use of available resources.

Some of the virtues of the sustainable design of the Center are:

Reuse of rainwater for irrigation.
Interior spaces with natural lighting, through solar tubs.
Internal lighting by means of LED systems.
Water treatment plant with a capacity of 400 m³ of water per day.
Taps with automatic closing, by mechanical means for maximum use of the water resource.
The use of reflective roofs, walls and parasols that mitigate solar heating.
High-tech air conditioning with energy saving and functional systems for specific areas.
Motion sensors for turning lights on and off.
Solid and liquid waste management, among others.
