WTTC recognizes Costa Rica with Safe Travels seal

The badge guarantees that the destination has sanitary measures that will regain the confidence of national and international tourists

The hard and responsible work of 28 officials of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) and 39 representatives of the private sector in preparing 16 health protocols for the COVID-19 pandemic, was recognized by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC by its acronym in English) by granting the country the Safe Travels world security seal and turning Costa Rica into a destination that complies with the necessary protocols and sanitary measures to travel.
This seal guarantees national and international tourists that when visiting a nation that has developed guides with the measures that ensure and promote the application of physical distance, the use of masks, the establishment of social bubbles and hand washing, to name a few, in the fight against the pandemic.
“This week we received this good news and we are very proud of the work of all the people who made the protocols to guarantee safety to their workforce and travelers in this process of adapting to the new normality. This is an important step and obliges us all in the tourist chain to comply with the protocols, if that is not done, it is useless to have the seal, "said Gustavo Segura, Minister of Tourism.
In this case, Costa Rica and the Costa Rican Tourism Institute, as a government entity, sent the protocols to be reviewed and validated, evaluated by the WTTC.
As detailed in the letter signed by Gloria Guevara, President and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council: “I want to thank you for the implementation and improvement of health measures along the same lines as the WTTC traveler safety protocols, developed and optimized for sector recovery to rebuild traveler confidence and ensuring a coordinated global approach of the public and private sectors. The World Travel and Tourism Council is proud to recognize their efforts through a secure seal for travelers in health matters ”
By complying with the stipulated requirements, the WTTC granted the use of the Safe Travels Seal under the category of "Destination Public Authorities", in order to be ambassadors and be able to extend it to companies in the Costa Rican industry that, in turn, comply with the implementation of the 16 protocols developed to date.

The next step from the ICT will be to start the process to sub-license Costa Rican tourism companies and promote the use of the Safe Travels seal. To this end, the process of verifying compliance with protocols by the members of the sector will be defined, to extend its use to companies that request it and thus join this country initiative.

Destinations such as Panama, Aruba, Portugal, Dubai, Turkey, Egypt, Ukraine, as well as the Spanish cities of Seville and Benidorm already use it.
