Uruguay announced the reopening of borders for European tourism

The measure is a gesture of reciprocity with the nations that make up this political and commercial bloc

The Minister of Tourism Germán Cardoso met with the President of the Republic Luis Lacalle Pou and after the meeting, announced the reopening of borders for tourists from the European Union. The measure is a gesture of reciprocity with the nations that make up this political and commercial bloc, since Uruguay is the only country in Latin America that has enabled its citizens to enter Europe since June. In any case, the reopening date has not yet been defined, as some decrees have to be modified.
At a press conference, the chief said that the country is in a position to advance in the tourism sector to Europe. He also pointed out that they discussed with the president the current situation of tourism and the development of investments in the country.

“Uruguay has a visibility in the world for the treatment of the pandemic and the measures adopted by the Government; it is perceived as a model country and an example to follow, ”said Cardoso.

He also highlighted that Uruguay is the only country in Latin America that has resumed its connection with the old continent, which is attractive for medium and medium-high level tourists.

Cardoso also pointed out that on the flights from that region, no "contagion lines" were found when applying the health protocols to passengers. It is recalled that Uruguay currently has its borders open to Uruguayans residing abroad, foreigners with residence or who demonstrate economic interests in the country.

In turn, the minister announced that in the coming weeks, he will meet again with the economic team to establish a new incentive package, with the aim of stimulating domestic tourism.

Entry requirements
The entry requirements for European tourists will be the same as those required for people who are allowed to enter the country: a document certifying a negative COVID-19 test (test carried out up to 72 hours before entry), quarantine of seven days and a new test, which if negative, will allow the visitor to go sightseeing. If you test positive, you must continue with the quarantine until completing the 14 days.
