Avianca resumes its operation in Colombia

The airline will offer 14 routes nationwide after having successfully tested its biosecurity protocols endorsed by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, ProColombia and the Icontec with the ‘Biosecurity Check-in Certified’ seal

This Tuesday, September 1, Avianca will return to the skies of Colombia connecting from Bogotá to destinations such as Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Cali, Cartagena, Cúcuta, Medellín, Montería, Pereira and San Andrés; and from September 7 it will restart operations from Bogotá to Pasto, Santa Marta, Villavicencio and from Medellín to Cali and Cartagena. The company will apply the strict biosecurity protocols that have already been successfully tested in the more than 330 special flights, transporting more than 34,380 people during these months.

Although initially the national operation will be only 12% of that existing before COVID, the company expects that demand and the need for connectivity will be activated quickly. In the same way, it will adapt its itineraries, routes and frequencies to the extent that the activation scheme designed by the Civil Aeronautics allows it.

The initial fleet for said operation includes 20 aircraft, the Airbus 320 serving the trunk routes and the ATR72 for the regional operation. During these months, the entire fleet underwent preventive maintenance checks to protect its general condition and ensure its availability.

The company hopes that the favorable concept on the viability of international flights, recently issued by the Ministry of Health, will allow the rapid opening of the market to other countries that are high-impact destinations for Colombia and that the admission of nationals is quickly promoted. Colombians to these destinations.

Anko van der Werff, President and CEO of Avianca, indicated: “Our commitment is to connect Colombia and that is why the restart of the air operation is a step forward in the economic reactivation of the country. When Avianca flies, not only its customers fly, but also travel agencies, hotels, restaurants, tour operators and merchants in general. We hope to contribute from our operation so that the entire tourism value chain benefits from this start.

Without a doubt, all the milestones that we achieved during these months ashore would not have been achieved without the determined support of our employees and their passion for service. Our infinite gratitude to them, as they are the ones who have built the company during these 100 years ”.

During the 5 months of closing the skies, the company reached destinations that are not part of its commercial network such as Rome, Paris, Shanghai, Zurich and Brussels. In addition, it transported more than 254,000 tons of cargo that included medical supplies, hygiene items and food to be part of the solution in the midst of this difficult situation.
