American Airlines advances the return of flights to Uruguay

In a bid to resume operations, the airline will rejoin Montevideo with Miami as of November 5

The resumption of activities, which will take place more than a month ahead of schedule, is a recognition of the management of the health situation by the Uruguayan authorities and the coordination work carried out with the country's private operators.

The North American company will begin selling tickets on Sunday, September 6, and will have two weekly frequencies linking the United States with Uruguay with a Boeing 777-200 for 273 passengers.

The flights will have sanitary guarantees and will comply with all the security measures and provisions regarding the entry of passengers to the country determined by the National Government.

The airline's decision comes after months of working together with the national authorities and Carrasco Airport to reconnect the two countries. American Airlines, which currently has two weekly cargo frequencies, is thus betting on resuming the air transport of passengers as well.

"We are very excited about our return to Uruguay in November with two weekly flights between Montevideo and Miami," said Gonzalo Schames, American Airlines regional manager for the Southern Cone. “At American, we have a strong focus on the well-being and safety of our customers and our team, which is why we are working closely with health experts and government authorities to continue to strengthen and expand our cleaning and safety protocols. We want our clients to feel safe when traveling with us and we hope to welcome them in Montevideo soon ”, he added.

“We welcome the resumption of American Airlines flights with joy. It is a clear recognition of the great work that is being done at the national level in the management of the pandemic and reaffirms that air transport has all the sanitary guarantees for the safety of all. It is a pride that, thanks to the joint work with the national authorities and the airline, our country once again has direct air connectivity for passengers with the United States, ”said Diego Arrosa, CEO of Corporación América Uruguay.
