With beautiful beaches, a center with a rich history and a gastronomy that will delight palates, the capital of Espírito Santo has become a booming tourist destination
Owner of one of the oldest historical centers in the country and made up of an archipelago of 33 islands, Vitória, capital of Espírito Santo, is 469 years old today. The “Cidade Sol”, as it is known, combines unrivaled natural beauty, culture, gastronomy and history, as well as a welcoming town, which has made it a national tourist destination on the rise. Among the attractions, the town stands out for its various urban parks, trails with viewpoints and natural monuments, among them, Penedo de Vitória, Pedra da Cebola and Pedra dos Olhos.
But whoever thinks that Vitória is limited to these tourist spots is wrong. Those who come to the city cannot stop tasting the local gastronomy, led by the delicious Moqueca Capixaba and which is present in the menu of most restaurants in the capital. Unlike other moquecas in the country, the dish has achiote in its recipe, which adds color to the food, and olive oil. Another distinction is the preparation in the clay pot, carried out by artisans from the neighborhood of the capital, Goiabeiras Velha. They shape, burn and stain the container with bark extracted directly from the mangroves.
After enjoying the delights of Espírito Santo, tourists cannot stop in the historic center of the city. The capital has one of the oldest in the country, along with São Paulo (SP) and Ouro Preto (MG), and has churches, museums, theaters and stairways that detail Victorian culture. The Carlos Gomes theater, for example, is one of the most visited by tourists. Its architectural design was based on a mixture of styles in which neoclassicism predominates. In 1983, the site was included in the list of the State Council of Culture.
Tourists can also visit the São Francisco Convent, considered by many historians to be the second oldest Franciscan building in Brazil, and the Nossa Senhora do Monte Carmo Church, whose façade was listed in 1984, also by the State Council of Culture. . The Historic Center still houses the Metropolitan Cathedral of Vitória, the Churches of São Gonçalo and Rosário and the Convento do Carmo. The capital also offers tourists the famous stairs, which give access to the upper city and the churches.
Now, for those who want to sunbathe in Vitória (ES), options abound. Camburi beach is the largest in the capital and one of the most visited. It is there where the main sporting events take place, such as national and world beach volleyball tournaments, beach soccer, sailing championships, among others. Tourists can still visit the Iemanjá pier, one of the main tourist spots in the region. If you are fond of water sports, Curva da Jurema beach is a good option. And you must also visit Praia das Castanheiras, which has small natural pools, in addition to the open sea.
