Colombia seeks to reactivate tourism by positioning itself as a destination in Europe

Entrepreneurs from 12 countries will participate for the first time in a virtual meeting with more than 50 actors of the Colombian tourism offer

With the aim of continuing to position Colombia as a tourist destination of international stature and to maintain the interest in its experiences, from October 19 to 23 the Virtual Week of Colombia in Europe will take place, a virtual academic and business space organized by ProColombia, the entity of the Government of Colombia that promotes investment, exports, tourism and the country brand in the world, in which some of the main actors of the sector of this continent and of the Latin American country will meet.

The event will bring together some thirty operators and more than twenty Colombian hotels, and will present the offer of two macro-regions of the destination: Medellín and Quindío and Atlántico and San Andrés. During the academic spaces, detailed information will be given on the biosafety regulations that govern Colombia for tourism, the positioning of the market as a sustainable destination and the new incentives for the sector, through the intervention of the Vice Minister of Tourism of Colombia, Julián Guerrero . He will be accompanied at the inauguration of the event by Gloria Guevara, CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the UNWTO and the president of ProColombia, Flavia Santoro, who highlights the strategy of the market: new oil from Colombia, a key industry for the country to which from ProColombia, hand in hand with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, we work to support and strengthen thanks to initiatives such as the Virtual Week of Colombia in Europe. This is a strategic market for our country with which we want to continue strengthening ties and business opportunities ”.

During the conference, the traveler's experience in the current context will also be addressed in the air connectivity panel with representatives of Turkish Airlines, Avianca, OPAIN and Aerocivil moderated by Gilberto Salcedo, vice president of tourism at ProColombia. The tour operator perspective will also be present with the participation of Brett Tollman, CEO of The Travel Corporation to share his vision on the future of the industry and tour operation.

Nominated as the world's leading destination by the World Travel Awards, Colombia promotes a Sustainable Tourism Policy with the aim of positioning sustainability as a fundamental pillar for the development of tourism in the country, as a factor for the competitiveness of tourism and development businesses local social and cultural.

The proposals of the new MICE tourism in a destination rich in unique experiences for meeting travel, will also be addressed during the week with the participation of Travel Solutions, SITE Global and Esfera / MPI.

There will also be a space dedicated to cross-selling success stories to show how various Colombian products are helping to position the country as a tourist destination, such as coffee and panela.

The week will close with the presentation of Delirio, an emblematic show that combines salsa, circus and a live orchestra. A show that reaffirms the festive identity of Cali, the world capital of salsa and which has become a tourist attraction in the region.

Opening of international flights in Colombia
The country continues to advance in its strategy of reactivating international tourism with the reopening of international flights. The opening is taking place in phases, the first began on September 21 with 7 countries and 4 cities with international connectivity, and the second during the month of October already includes all international airports and new flights to countries that continue to open their borders.
