Volaris launches the reopening of operations in Central America

Volaris Costa Rica, the ultra-low-cost airline that operates in Central America, Mexico and the United States, will restart operations from Costa Rica and Central America on November 23, and announces the launch of a program to reactivate tourism throughout the region that it considers a 70% discount for routes to and from Central America to travel in the high season of 2020 and during 2021.

During a press videoconference in which the Ministers of Public Works and Transportation and Tourism of Costa Rica, Rodolfo Méndez and Gustavo Segura, respectively, and the President of Airbus for Latin America and the Caribbean, Arturo Barreira, Enrique Beltranena, CEO participated and Founder of Volaris, thanked the Costa Rican authorities for their support for the resumption of operations and explained the advantages of Volaris' low-cost model.

"Volaris Costa Rica's business model allows us to have low operating costs, in order to offer a more accessible rate to all budgets, at the most important moment for economic reactivation," said Enrique Beltranena. "A lower rate allows the average tourist to dedicate the budget that is saved in the airfare in accommodation, meals and experiences at the destination, detonating the value chain," he added.

For his part, the Minister of Public Works and Transportation of Costa Rica, Rodolfo Méndez, assured that although the suspension of air transport has been part of the effects of the pandemic on the global, regional and Costa Rican economy, the announcement of Volaris will help to reactivate the commercial and tourist activity of the country and Central America.

“The announcement of Volaris is very important for Costa Rica and the Isthmus, as we remember that it is a company with a national flag that with its reactivation generates employment in our country. As it is a low-cost airline, it affects the competitiveness of air transport in our country and in Central America, ”said the Minister of Public Works and Transportation.

This reactivation includes a 70% discount on the fare of all Volaris routes to and from Central America, with which the Costa Rican national flag airline seeks to detonate the tourism value chain and serve as a catalyst for the national relaunch of tourism in the region.

Volaris Costa Rica, which began operations in 2016 and has since transported more than 1.2 million Customers, will operate in Costa Rica with 3 A319 aircraft, will have 5 daily takeoffs and a total of 15 route combinations during November, so currently consolidates itself as one of the largest airlines in Central America thanks to its operations in the airports of El Salvador, Guatemala and San José, Costa Rica.

For his part, the Minister of Tourism of Costa Rica, Gustavo Segura, thanked Volaris for its strategic partnership with the Costa Rican industry and highlighted the relevance of tourism for this country -which contributes between 8 and 10 percent of its GDP and employment- , where the airline industry and Volaris are a tool for economic reactivation.

“Volaris routes are particularly important for Costa Rica because of the niches they transfer: the one for forums and congresses comes mainly from Central America and Mexico, and the one for vacations of the tourists we are interested in (high income and educated), focuses on cities that Volaris connects such as Los Angeles, New York and Washington, ”said Minister Gustavo Segura.

The President of Airbus for Latin America and the Caribbean, Arturo Barreira, spoke about health security and the low risk of contagion on an airplane. He explained the processes and protocols implemented by the airline industry to keep the air clean and free of germs inside the aircraft, in order to guarantee the safety of passengers.
