Ted Christie, President and CEO of the airline stated: "We decided to start with a blank sheet and reinvent our program"
Spirit Airlines will give new wings to its Free Spirit loyalty program beginning January 21, 2021.
"Loyalty programs must work for all travelers regardless of whether they travel once a year or once a week," said Ted Christie, President and CEO of Spirit Airlines. “We decided to start with a blank page and reinvent our Free Spirit program. Points mean nothing if they can't be used. Our new program allows everyone to keep their points for longer, which means that both those who travel on family vacations, frequent travelers and people who travel to visit their loved ones will be able to enjoy and make use of the new benefits that it offers Free Spirit ”.
More rewards, more flexibility
The new Free Spirit was developed on the basis of points for every dollar spent instead of miles flown. There will be no need to travel the world as each reservation, each suitcase and each Big Front Seat will accumulate points towards your next big trip.
Each member will receive a minimum of six points for every dollar spent on airfare.
Each member receives a minimum of 12 points for every dollar spent on À La Smarte options such as seats, luggage and packages. That's right: double the points.
Introducing Free Spirit Silver and Gold: Status benefits include free seat selection, free carry-on baggage, and free checked baggage. Additionally, status holders earn more points for each À La Smarte fare and option purchase.
Any seat on any flight: Members will be able to redeem their award travel points on any seat on any flight, with no blackout dates. If a seat is available for dollars, it is also available for points. Our point rates will always be based on our money rates. This means that a Passenger who finds an excellent deal with money will also find it with points.
Point Pooling: Members will be able to combine Free Spirit points with up to eight friends and / or family so they can earn award flights faster. This means that everyone will be able to Do More.
Points + Money: Book faster and fly faster by combining and redeeming combinations from as little as 1,000 points + money to cover the rest of the fare.
Points That Last: Points do not expire as long as the member makes a qualifying transaction to earn or redeem at least once a year (Free Spirit Promerica cardholders' points will never expire).
Lower Redemption Charges: Booking is easier than ever. The new Free Spirit has fewer and lower points redemption fees. (Passengers with Spirit status, qualifying cardholders, and members who book 90 days or more in advance will no longer pay redemption fees.)
“At Spirit, we are committed to allowing Passengers to pay only for what they want,” said Christie. “Reinventing Spirit from the ground up gave us the opportunity to make our loyalty program as flexible as the travel experience we provide. Family members traveling together should be able to collect their points to use them. We want them to use those points when it suits them and not just when a computer says they can use them".
