Buenos Aires obtained the Safe Travels seal

The World Travel and Tourism Council granted him the certification that guarantees that the City complies with all hygiene and safety protocols to receive tourists

The city of Buenos Aires received today the international Safe Travels seal, issued by the World Travel and Tourism Council, a badge of support for tourist destinations that adopt and comply with hygiene, sanitation and physical distancing protocols.
The news was communicated this afternoon, during a videoconference between authorities of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Nation, Inprotur and the Tourism Board of the City of Buenos Aires, who applauded the work and joint commitment.
“The safe destination seal is a recognition of working together with the tourism sector. This will allow us to gradually reactivate economic activity, and be in a position to receive, little by little, national and international tourists, since Buenos Aires is a safe city ”, stated the president of the Tourism Board of the City of Buenos Aires Aires, Gonzalo Robredo.
The destinations in the region that have the seal are San Pablo, Rio de Janeiro, Cancun, Morelia and Quito, among others. The Safe Travels seal guarantees that the destination is safe and prepared to receive tourists, complying with all the global health and hygiene requirements and guidelines, established and endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Control and the Disease Prevention (CDC) and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).
“We want to congratulate and recognize Buenos Aires for joining the list of distinguished destinations around the world that obtain the Safe Travels Stamp. This badge is a reflection of its commitment to the sector. In addition, it means great responsibility, since it requires exhaustive supervision to guarantee compliance with hygiene and sanitation protocols, ”said Gloria Guevara, President and CEO of the WTTC.
The certification obtained allows future travelers to identify destinations around the world that adapted their protocols to global health and hygiene standards. The first destinations to receive the certificate were Saudi Arabia, Barcelona, Portugal and Seville, Turkey, Bulgaria, Mauritius and Ontario in Canada, among others.
The protocols endorsed by the WTTC, which confirm the City as a safe destination, are the following: Protocol for the prevention and management of COVID-19 cases in Accommodations; Protocol for the prevention and management of COVID-19 cases in Meeting Tourism; Protocol for the prevention and management of COVID-19 cases in travel agencies; Protocol for the prevention and management of COVID-19 cases in Airports; and Protocol for the prevention and management of COVID-19 cases in Gastronomy. “This seal is essential to provide confidence to all national and international travelers who come to the City. In addition, it allows us to advance in the creation of a network of safe and prepared destinations with other cities in the region, which are the destinations that send the most tourists to the City. It is one more step to achieve a safe reactivation of tourism ", said Fernando Straface, Secretary General and Secretary of International Relations.
It is worth noting that the City's Tourism Entity, together with Inprotur, will assume the role of ambassadors of the Safe Travels Seal, thus being able to transfer the distinction to tourism providers in order to stimulate the reactivation of the activity.
This distinction will be granted through the Inprotur granting mechanism, validated by the WTTC, which recognizes the power of the City to validate or invalidate the Buenos Aires actors interested in applying for the seal.
The call will be announced by both organizations and cooperative actions will be carried out to attract companies interested in joining the seal, exchanging information with the private sector and sharing institutional spaces.
To promote the recovery of tourism after the pandemic, the City has already implemented different actions. In the first place, the Buenos Aires Tourism Board works with the main destinations in the country and private operators exchanging plans and security measures, with a view to generating safe corridors between the main places.
In addition, the City formally launched VisitBA, the public-private agency for the promotion of international tourism, which is made up of the main chambers of the sector. Among other actions, the agency will seek to generate corridors and a network of destinations prepared between Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Santiago de Chile, Lima, Bogotá, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Asunción, destinations that accounted for 60% of the tourist arrivals to Buenos Aires Aires in 2019.
Finally, it is also planned to design and implement a promotional campaign to attract national and international tourists and students and remote workers (digital nomads).
