Uruguay presented the tourism reactivation strategy 2020/2021

With the presence of President Luis Lacalle Pou and the Minister of Tourism Germán Cardoso, the Uruguayan Chamber of Tourism has presented its planning

Camtur presented its 2020/2021 internal tourism strategy to tourism unions and government authorities.

In addition, the new president of the institution, Marina Cantera, assumed the event. Camtur groups together sectoral unions, associations, regional chambers and departmental directorates of the sector.

President Lacalle Pou said that he accompanied Camtur in this meeting, as a recognition and gratitude for the complex months that the Covid-19 has gone through. The president also expressed that the measures taken for the sector are good, many, although not enough.

"The trend of this government is to listen, give participation and execute," explained Lacalle Pou, referring to the measures that are applied.

In October, the Government approved several measures in support of tour operators, which will be in force from December 2020 to April 4, 2021, among which the following stand out:

Zero VAT rate for hotels.

Discount of 9 VAT points for gastronomy and car rentals.

Monthly discount of 8,000 pesos in employer contributions for new contracts or reinstatement of employees.

Access to credit guarantees through the National Guarantee System (SIGA).

For Minister Cardoso, tourist occupancy levels in recent weekends are good because Uruguayans have come to know their country.

Given these indicators, the hierarch said that they should continue to insist on the strict application of the protocols, emphasizing hygiene, social distancing, the use of masks and gauges.

Cardoso pointed out that these instances have yielded positive results, for example, in the hot springs, without cases of Covid-19 since July. "The success of the economy as a whole depends on care," he said.

The Secretary of State stressed that Uruguay is playing the domestic tourism season after intense work. He pointed out that the reports on mobility are very good.

"We have to understand that responsible freedom is essential to cut the contagion line and for us to have a good season of tourism in the reality that we have to live," concluded Cardoso.
