Medellín is the second most competitive city in tourism in Colombia

According to the Regional Tourist Competitiveness Index Medellín is located in that position in the ranking among the capitals of the country

In the last two years, Medellín went from a rating of 6.57 to 7.13 points in the Regional Tourism Competitiveness Index and ranks second among the capital cities of the country after Bogotá. In third and fourth place are Cartagena and Cali, respectively. 

The 2020 measurement was carried out for 32 departments including the Capital District, 23 capital cities and 103 municipalities with a tourist vocation. In the capital cities segment, the work and commitment of the Medellín Mayor's Office was highlighted to promote tourism development, with high levels of competitiveness and a focus on sustainability. 

105 indicators related to tourism competitiveness are evaluated by the Centro de Pensamiento Turístico de Colombia - CPTUR, an initiative of the Colombian Hotel and Tourism Association - COTELCO and the Cafam University Foundation - UNICAFAM, which measures the criteria and locates the departments , capital cities and municipalities in a ranking according to their performance. 

“The level of demand of the tourist is getting higher and higher. Today the world faces a tourism that seeks experiences more connected with nature, greater contribution to the community, with more social impact and a better prepared infrastructure. It is a pride to know that we are focusing our efforts appropriately to be more competitive and offer tourists a memorable experience ”, explained Sandra Howard Taylor, executive director of the Bureau of Medellín and Antioquia.
