With less than 15 hours apart, two new JetBlue airline flights from Los Angeles, USA landed at Daniel Oduber Quirós international airports in Liberia, Guanacaste ( LIR ) and Juan Santamaría ( SJO ).
This Sunday morning, at 7:47 am, the aircraft arrived and Costa Rica welcomed JetBlue at the air terminal located in Alajuela with a total of 112 passengers on board, while in Liberia, the inaugural flight was received similar on Saturday evening. Both planes were baptized with the traditional bow of water as a welcome.
At both airports, the visitors complied with the health protocols and received as a souvenir a mask with the design, colors and allegories of the typical Sarchí wagon .
"These new JetBlue routes to the Daniel Oduber International Airport and the Juan Santamaría International Airport are the result of a joint public-private effort to reactivate our tourism industry ," said Gustavo Segura, Rector of Tourism.
Segura thanked the airline for its confidence in Costa Rica and stressed the strategic importance of these flights given that the state of California has a high concentration of the profile of tourists that our country wants to attract, travelers who appreciate nature, sustainability, culture and the unique experiences that the destination offers.
New connection renews optimism
“We are pleased to continue strengthening relationships with JetBlue through the Juan Santamaría International Airport and a new alternative for passengers to fly to Costa Rica from Los Angeles. In the midst of a situation where the industry is focused on regaining the confidence of travelers and pre-pandemic operations, Costa Rica is privileged to add new routes from the main source market for tourists and from such an important city in the United States.
"So the work articulated between manifests ICT and AERIS , which will provide the best service that characterizes the main airport of the country and thus continue to contribute to the speedy recovery , " said Rafael Mencia , executive director of AERIS
For his part, César Jaramillo , general manager of CORIPORT stated that it was very optimistic about these new arrivals.
“As the weeks progress, we have seen great interest from the airlines to return to this destination. JetBlue , specifically, will bring six weekly flights and this shows how much our country recognizes the safety and quality of the vacation destination ”, the spokesperson concluded.
