For the 2020-2021 season, a total of ninety sites: 62 beaches, three marinas and 25 sustainable tourism boats, have the Blue Flag Distinctive, reported the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués.
He specified that the validity period covers from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021 and the Distinctive is distributed in nine states of the country: Baja California Sur, Guerrero, Jalisco, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Tamaulipas, Sonora and Yucatan.
He indicated that, with this number of Badges, Mexico remains in the first place of Blue Flag certified sites in the American continent, at the same time that it is placed in the thirteenth position worldwide. Likewise, in terms of the number of sustainable tourism vessels, it is a leader on a global scale.
The head of Sectur highlighted that, derived from the Covid-19 pandemic, the Blue Flag Program incorporated an Action Protocol aligned with the health policies established by the federal Ministry of Health and the competent authorities at the state and municipal levels.
Finally, he recalled that the Secretary of Tourism under his charge promotes the international Blue Flag certification, which guarantees the implementation of good environmental practices; security and services; environmental education and water quality in beaches, marinas and tourist boats.
