The Mundo Maya Organization, made up of the governments of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, announced today the celebration of its First Business Roundtable that, virtually, will take place from January 20 to 22, present year.
In this regard, the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, affirmed that this is a great initiative that will promote the reactivation of the tourism sector and will further strengthen the ties of friendship between the nations that make up the Maya Region, united by a common history and culture.
"This event is emerging as a powerful tool that will give our value chain an unbeatable reach and visibility for the commercialization of a regional multi-destination product, unique in the world," he said.
With the presence of Morena Valdez, Minister of Tourism of El Salvador and president of the Mundo Maya Organization; Nicole Solano, Vice Minister of Tourism of Belize; Mynor Cordón, general director of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute; and Armando Fúnez, on behalf of Nicole Marrder, Minister of Tourism of Honduras, the head of the Secretariat of Tourism of Mexico (Sectur) said that this business meeting illustrates the efforts that have been made in recent months together, as a regional bloc, since the Mundo Maya product is a meeting point between culture, ecology and community development, which will take advantage of and revalue its environment without destroying it.
“The countries that make up the Mundo Maya Region must do synergy and work on the creation of innovative products, as well as on their proper integration, configuring regional tourist circuits that detonate local economies; that include the tourist's interaction with the communities, as part of their experience; and that they promote the rescue of archaeological zones and respect for nature, among other actions, ”he stated.
He added that in Mexico, the Mayan Zone, which covers an area of 241 thousand 784 square kilometers in five states: Campeche, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Yucatán, is united by a large-scale project that will be a model of regionalization, sustainability, social inclusion, participatory planning and product integration.
"I am referring to the Mayan Train, an emblematic work of the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which will have 19 stations, will travel 1,525 kilometers and will represent a potential of 190 high-impact tourist attractions," he said.
Finally, Secretary Torruco Marqués assured that this year 2021 begins with a renewed spirit and a wind of hope for the application of the vaccine against Covid-19, which will significantly favor the recovery of tourist activity.
For her part, Morena Valdez, president of the Mundo Maya Organization, said that in this first Business Round there will be around two hundred service providers, including operators, hotel chains, community organizations and government entities, who will meet with professionals in the tourism industry from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Chile, Peru and the Dominican Republic, among others.
"These business appointments will allow exhibitors to publicize their services, offers and, of course, the biosecurity measures that are being applied for the protection of all our visitors," he said.
The state secretaries of Tourism also participated in this press conference: Katyna de la Vega Grajales, from Chiapas; Michelle Fridman Hirsch, from Yucatán; Marisol Vanegas Pérez, from Quintana Roo; Jorge Manos Esparragoza, from Campeche; and José Nieves Rodríguez, from Tabasco; as well as Juan Carlos Rivera Castellanos, president of the Union of Secretaries of Tourism of Mexico (Asetur).
