Officials from Sectur and SRE spoke with Mexican Embassies in Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and the Liaison Office in Taiwan in the framework of the work of the Permanent Tourism Observatory
Yesterday, the Undersecretary of Quality and Regulation of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), Humberto Hernández-Haddad, and the Head of Unit of the Executive Directorate of Strategy and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE), Alfonso Zegbe Camarena, spoke with the heads and officials of the Mexican Embassies in Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and the Liaison Office in Taiwan, within the framework of the work of the Permanent Tourism Observatory (OTP).
Both agencies agreed on the importance of highlighting the historical and cultural ties that Mexico and Asia-Pacific share to strengthen tourism and investment between the parties. The strategic position that Mexico offers to the countries of the region was highlighted, mainly its bioceanic characteristic that allows it to be a point of connectivity through the Pacific Ocean, an aspect that favors the reactivation of tourist and commercial activities.
On the other hand, these Representations shared the strategies to contain the COVID-19 pandemic that the governments of their secondments have successfully implemented. These measures have allowed, in addition to reducing the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, to begin to generate safe travel spaces that encourage tourism among nations that share a border, a model that could be implemented in Mexico later.
The general director of the International Affairs and Cooperation Unit of Sectur, Emmanuel Rey, and the coordinator of Tourism and Public Diplomacy of the SRE, Ángel E. Santamaría Navarro, invited the participants to build an effective communication bridge between the Representations of Mexico Abroad and both agencies with the aim of collaborating in a comprehensive and inclusive tourism reactivation project.
