The second phase of a program that considers urban, economic and cultural heritage aspects has been launched
The Dominican Government began, this Tuesday, the second phase of the Integral Program for Tourism and Urban Development of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo (PIDTUCCSD), for an amount of 90 million dollars, with financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
This initiative of the Dominican State seeks the revitalization of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo in its urban, economic and cultural tourism aspects, whose plans and projects are scheduled to be executed in about 6 years.
The implementation of this program will offer results in the improvement of the offer of cultural tourism, the elevation of the quality of life of the residents, the renovation of their homes and their surroundings, it will also allow a significant advance in the efficiency of the Colonial City as a destination.
The public space of the Colonial City will experience changes in the historic streets Las Mercedes, Padre Billini, Hostos, El Conde and others of similar importance, (up to a length of 5 km), they will be renewed in their surface, equipment and landscape, as well as, all its service facilities will be buried and will have lighting and video surveillance circuits, at a cost of 1,261 million pesos.
The heritage buildings, which function as museums, will be physically conditioned and their museography modernized, for an amount of 938 million pesos. In which they are; Alcázar de Colón, Ozama Fortress in Santo Domingo, Las Casas Reales, and the Cathedral museum.
In the north of the Colonial City, made up of the neighborhoods of Santa Bárbara, San Antón, San Miguel and San Lázaro, it will have 676 million pesos to improve the houses and the living conditions of the residents. With this plan and others that complement it, the growth and permanence of the population, which is the most important asset of the Area, will be stimulated.
The private sector, micro-business and new ventures will receive incentives, both in grants and in works and in job and technical training, up to an amount of 216 million pesos.
Many other important activities and investments will be offered by the Citizenship Program.
