The first Eastern Airlines flight to Uruguay arrived yesterday

The US airline flew the direct route between Montevideo and Miami for the first time

The American airline Eastern Airlines flew for the first time to Uruguay, starting its operations in the country and thus reestablishing the direct route between Montevideo and Miami.

The inaugural flight arrived at Carrasco International Airport (MVD) on June 24 at 5:50 p.m. and received a welcome with the traditional baptism of the aircraft under a “water bridge”. The US company is the only one that currently connects the Uruguayan capital with Miami directly without stops.

The first aircraft of the airline was received by national authorities of Tourism, Transport and Defense, as well as representatives of the National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure, Carrasco Airport and the airline itself.

The new route is part of Eastern Airlines' growing connectivity with Miami and adds to the company's expansion of routes throughout Latin America. The airline offers direct flights with two weekly frequencies, on Thursdays and Sundays, between MVD and MIA starting at U $ D 716 round trip.

Each trip is made with Boeing 767-300 aircraft, with capacity for 250 passengers. The journey lasts approximately 8 hours, has on-board service and two classes for passengers, Premium Economy and Economy. In addition, customers have 1 piece of luggage included, up to 32 kg in weight.

Dr. Carlos Pera, general sales agent for Eastern Airlines in Uruguay, expressed his great satisfaction with the arrival of the new flight and the progress made with the reopening of connectivity between Montevideo and Miami. "Both cities are united by great ties and interests related to business, commerce and tourism," he said.

He also noted that while other airlines are reducing their international routes and switching to seasonal operations, Eastern Airlines continues to expand its wings to meet the growing demand for travel, especially in Latin America. The airline also aims to be part of the Uruguayan cargo market and make Miami a cargo transit center for Asia.

Diego Arrosa, CEO of Carrasco International Airport, stated that "the arrival of Eastern Airlines in the country is a great boost for the sector and is a milestone that seeks to contribute to the strengthening of a sector that is the driving force of the national economy."

The arrival of the airline is the result of the coordinated work of the airline with the Airport, with ministries, state agents, the Embassy of Uruguay in the United States and the Embassy of the United States in Uruguay.
