Immunized foreigners with a negative PCR test will be allowed to enter from November 1
On Monday, August 9, President Luis Lacalle Pou headed a new Council of Ministers in the Executive Tower, which analyzed the health emergency due to Covid-19, the decrease in daily infections and patients in ICU, as well as the advance of the vaccination that today it reaches 73% of the population with one dose and 65% with both.
Lacalle Pou said that the Government resolved to open the borders from September 1 to foreigners vaccinated against Covid-19 who own properties in Uruguay and that they must present a negative PCR test upon entering. The measure includes the holder, his spouse and children.
Likewise, the president confirmed that Argentines inoculated with two doses of the Sputnik vaccine will be able to enter the country.
In a second stage, from November 1, the gradual opening of borders will include all immunized foreigners with a negative PCR test.
In turn, Lacalle Pou announced that from today the date for the third inoculation with Pfizer vaccines will be confirmed for those who were scheduled, a schedule that will begin on Monday, August 16.
Finally, the President mentioned that there is no set date for the repeal of the sanitary emergency decree, which will be carried out in a reasonable period of time, since vaccination reduced infections, he stressed.
For his part, the Minister of Tourism, Germán Cardoso said that "it is a day of great hope" for the tourism sector, in the field of serious and responsible work to take care of the health and life of Uruguayans.
In addition, Cardoso added that it is a path of responsibility, with a gradual process, in which the situation will be evaluated to take new measures.
