World Tourism Day has been instituted by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), its theme in 2021 is “Tourism for inclusive growth”. The activity represents 8.1% of GDP in Brazil and employs around 7 million people.
With the advance of vaccination -more than 229 million doses already applied-, Brazilian tourism is already showing signs of clear recovery, with expectations of reaching the levels observed in the pre-pandemic scenario for next summer. And one of the strong trends of this return is proximity tourism, a modality that involves destinations up to 300 km from the tourist's residence.
“We are experiencing the resumption of tourist activity throughout the country and the positive rates month by month reinforce that we are on the right track. Today is a day to celebrate. After a year of so many uncertainties, we were able to see how this important economic activity was once again generating employment and income for our population ”, celebrated the Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado Neto.
To commemorate World Tourism Day, the Tourism News Agency has prepared a series of 27 animations with advice on destinations close to the 27 Brazilian capitals, encouraging travel to resume tourism. Called "Proximity Tourism", the series will have its first episode premiered this Monday and will depart from Recife, capital of Pernambuco. The animations will be displayed on the profiles of the Ministry of Tourism on social networks.
The proximity destinations shown in the series are Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Ilha de Itamaracá, Maragogi, Olinda and Porto de Galinhas.
