Avianca chooses the Boeing 787 as the only wide-cabin passenger plane

State-of-the-art Dreamliner technology offers increased fuel efficiency, better cargo and operational capacity, and more comfortable flights for customers

Avianca confirms that it will operate the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner as its only type of wide-body aircraft for passengers on long-haul flights, considering the airline's current and future needs for routes and capacity, its operational efficiency and profitability, in addition to a reduced environmental footprint.

“One of Avianca's strategic objectives is to simplify its fleet and increase efficiency; the selection of the 787-8 as the only aircraft type for long-haul flights is a significant step towards this goal. Thanks to the openness and constructive dialogues with Boeing, Rolls-Royce, lessors and financial institutions, we are proud to be able to confirm that we will continue to operate the Dreamliner, an exceptional aircraft that, given its capabilities, characteristics, efficiency and comfort, is the best for our company. and for our clients. We look forward to keeping our chairs in the executive cabin, targeting customers flying for business, while we redesign the rest of the aircraft with state-of-the-art seats over the next 18 months, "said Rohit Philip, Avianca's Chief Financial Officer.

Here are the main benefits of the 787-8 as the only passenger wide-body aircraft in Avianca's operation:

Ready for the future: It remains a state-of-the-art aircraft that provides a long-term solution to your fleet's needs on long-range flights.
Passenger Comfort - The 787's design provides better levels of cabin pressurization and less dry air, enhancing the long-haul experience.
Lower Environmental Footprint - Dreamliner technology enables you to achieve greater range while consuming 20% less fuel and generating significantly reduced CO2 emissions, compared to previous generation aircraft.
Better financial results: The aircraft provides superior cargo capacity, greater fuel efficiency and more seats, which improves the contribution of the wide-body fleet to the bottom line of the airline.

"We would like to thank Avianca for its continued commitment to the 787 Dreamliner. The aircraft, and its state-of-the-art economic and environmental performance, will serve Avianca well in its growth during the market recovery ahead," said Ricardo Cavero, Vice President Sales of Boeing Commercial Airplanes for Latin America and the Caribbean.

In turn, Ewen McDonald, Chief Customer Officer of Rolls-Royce Civil Aerospace, indicated: “Throughout the pandemic, we have done everything possible to help our clients manage the impact of Covid-19 in their organizations, working working closely with them to find solutions to challenges. We are delighted with Avianca's decision to keep the 787 with the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine and look forward to working together for many years to come".

The 787 is considered one of the aircraft with the most advanced aeronautical technology available; It has dynamic lighting based on LEDs for each moment of the flight, larger windows, larger compartments for hand luggage, lower levels of interior noise and CO2 emissions due to the technology of its engines. Its characteristics also include a lower cabin pressurization altitude that helps the customer arrive more rested and with humidity levels that prevent dryness and discomfort in the eyes and body.
