Peru is awarded at the World Travel Awards South America 2021

The award ceremony was held in the Peruvian pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) and the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) announced that Peru was the winner of four World Travel Awards (WTA) South America, also known as the Tourism Oscars:

Best Culinary Destination. Leader in South America 2021: Peru
Best Cultural Destination. Leader in South America 2021: Peru
Leading Tourist Attraction in South America 2021: Machupicchu, Peru
Leading Tourism Office in South America 2021: PROMPERÚ

"The awards given to our country reaffirm Peru's tourist positioning in the world as a destination with extensive cultural and natural wealth in addition to highlighting the magnificence of Machupicchu as a leading tourist destination in the region and PROMÉRÚ as a leading state agency in promoting Tourism ”, Stated Roberto Sánchez, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism.

The awards of this important award were presented, in an emotional and symbolic event, in the Peru pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai with the presence of the executive president of PROMPERÚ, Amora Carbajal and the founder of the World Travel Awards, Graham Cooke.

This version of the South American awards is only the beginning since the global awards of the WTAs will be held in Moscow on November 26. For this edition, Peru has important nominations whose voting will be open until October 24:

  • Leading culinary destination in the world: Peru ->  Vote
  • World's leading cultural destination: Peru ->  Vote
  • World's leading green destination: Peru ->  Vote
  • Leading tourist attraction in the world: Machupicchu ->  Vote
  • World's Leading Cruise Destination: Peru ->  Vote
  • World's leading tourist office: PROMPERÚ ->  Vote

The World Travel Awards serve to recognize and celebrate excellence in all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.

It is worth mentioning that the distinctions were awarded within the framework of the symbolic inauguration of the Peru pavilion at EXPO 2020 Dubai. The Peru pavilion with 2,500 m2 of built area, seeks to be a pole of Peru that fosters tourism and sustainable and decentralized foreign trade, which allows the cultural proposal of the country to be made known to an important bloc of Arab countries.
