F1 in Mexico will leave a spill of more than 192 million pesos per accommodation

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, reported that during the days that the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Mexico is held, an economic spill of 192.1 million pesos is estimated for lodging.

He specified that during the automobile competition, which will take place from November 5 to 7, an average hotel occupancy percentage of 63.7 percent is expected in Mexico City, which is equivalent to 100 thousand 084 occupied rooms.

He also stressed that the arrival of 188 thousand tourists to hotel rooms in this metropolis is expected, of which 42 thousand will be foreigners.

Mexico City has 631 lodging establishments, which combine 52 thousand 666 rooms. The calculation is based mainly on 5-star hotels, with 17,424 rooms; 4 stars, with 13,331; and 3 stars, with 10 thousand 513 rooms, as well as others of lesser category, located in the area near the racetrack in the municipalities of Iztacalco, Venustiano Carranza and Iztapalapa, next to the Central de Abastos.

Secretary Torruco Marqués assured that Formula 1 is the CDMX event that has been awarded on different occasions as the best of the year by Formula One Management (FOM) and the International Automobile Federation (FIA), above the rest from the championship venues.

He estimated that during the three days of this race a capacity of 335 thousand spectators is expected at the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome.

He indicated that this event will be broadcast to 200 countries, receiving approximately 2,400 hours of coverage worldwide.

Finally, he pointed out that the Government of the Republic stopped contributing, through the Ministry of Tourism, more than 40 million dollars a year for this event, so that at the beginning of this administration various criticisms and even auguries were received that it would stop being made in Mexico; however, the private sector took it up again with new vigor and, above all, with a sense of social dimension. "So, for now, there will be a Grand Prix until 2024 without charge to the federal treasury."
