The Mexican destination seeks to consolidate the good season 2021 and be one of the most visited by domestic and international tourists
Guanajuato has had a great participation in the Tianguis Turístico 2021. There we have been able to interview Juan José Álvarez Brunel, Minister of Tourism of Guanajuato. We share the official's responses below:
How do you rate the actuality of the destination?
From the statistics we have, the leisure segment is the one that suffered the least, even many of the visitors have high purchasing power. They value our destination the qualities of care and security. This does not mean that we have not had periods in which of course the occupation has decreased due to mobility restrictions. Now meeting tourism, which is of the utmost importance to us, has begun to recover, in 2019 we were in fifth place as a destination in the country. The LEÓN GUANAJUATO Poliforum has more than 32,000 m2 of exhibition space and is part of an initiative of the governor called the León MX district.
What infrastructure does the city have?
In Guanajuato we have an international airport, first class hotels of all kinds, obviously including first class ones. It is worth noting that Guanajuato in recent years has been one of the states that has grown the most in the industrial area, so business tourism has attracted a large hotel investment.
How are they organized to promote the destination?
We do not have a trust as such, we have legally constituted organizations or tourist councils, we are in a process of evolution, in the middle of the diagnosis stage and looking for the best model.
What are the main source markets?
Our main commercial partner in many things and tourism is the United States, Canada plays an important role and in third place we have Colombia. Colombians really like to come to Mexico, not only to beach areas but also to enjoy cultural tourism and in Guanajuato we have great diversity in that regard. We have colonial cities, archaeological zones, magical towns, etc. Nature tourism is also something that has developed in a very important way because as a result of the pandemic we have developed interesting products.
What would your message be for tourism professionals?
Guanajuato at the tourism level has a lot to offer and we are doing everything in our power to understand again what our tourists want. We have been working hard to professionalize those who provide the service.
