Anguilla receives maiden flight from Miami

The first commercial flight connecting the United States with Anguilla landed at Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA) on Saturday (11) at 2:50 pm. The plane was greeted with the traditional water bow made by two fire trucks as it made its way to the terminal building.

On board was the island country's Minister of Tourism, Haydn Hughes, who welcomed the inaugural service of American Airlines. “The possibility and reality of this flight will be a success for both the airline and Anguilla. We will do everything in our power to ensure this is sustainable, as success depends on each other, ”he commented.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Quincia Gumbs-Marie, also highlighted the importance of the new service that connects the island with the mainland in an easy way and the plans to expand the offer of flights to Anguilla: “We are excited and encouraged by the decision of American Airlines to increase the schedule to three times a week from January 5, which ensures a demand of travelers for our destination. With this new route from Miami, our guests in the United States, United Kingdom, South America, Dubai and Canada now have more convenient access to our wonderful island. " 

“I speak on behalf of all local partners when I say that the introduction of regular US service is a game changer for our tourism industry,” said Kenroy Herbert, president of the Anguilla Tourism Council. 

Stacey Liburd, Anguilla Tourism Director, chaired the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the airport. "The regular service of a global company, offering First Class, Business Class and Economy Class makes a big difference in our search for this important market segment," he said.

The route operates twice a week every Wednesday and Saturday until January 4, 2022, with an additional flight from Monday, January 5, 2022.
